Without a doubt, the newly released iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are on the top of the chart in terms of having a good audio especially in voice calls. Well, I have been an iPhone fanatic for over the years and I can say that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus does have the audio quality I need to hear voices clearer than other phones.
But did you know that you can even make that audio better? Did you know that you can make the quality of voices on your iPhone 6 and 6 Plus HD? Yes you can! And you can do that by following the simple steps below.
How to Enable HD Voice on your iPhone 6 and 6 Plus
By default, your iPhone 6 limits 4G LTE network to “Data only.” To enable HD voice, you’ll have to configure your iPhone 6 to have voice and data sent over the 4G LTE network. This means you will need to manually enable VoLTE. From your iPhone 6’s home screen, go to Settings > Cellular > Enable LTE >then selectVoice and Data.
If you're on countries that has mobile carriers like Verizon and T-Mobile, iPhone 6 users with T-Mobile contracts can enjoy the simple, one-step activation of HD voice (there are lots of limitations, see below). Not the case when you’re under contract with Verizon. It added an additional step called, Advanced Calling 1.0. Both the Verizon and T-Mobile offer VoLTE services at no extra charge.
To activate Advanced Calling 1.0, log on to your Verizon account > Manage My Account > Change Features > Add Advanced Calling.
AT&T however, provides a limited HD Voice service. HD Voices is only available to Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and parts of Minnesota. While Sprint does not offer HD Voice.
Bonus Knowledge:
VoLTE (Voice over LTE) — the relatively new calling standard that, when possible, places calls over 4G LTE data networks, instead of the traditional circuit-switched networks.
This VoLTE is the one responsible that you may experience HD Voice on your phone but, since it's in early stage, expect that the HD Voice is also limited. When using HD Voice, you may sometimes drop calls as you both need have to stay on a strong LTE network to make the HD Voice call. But once the other line drop, it will cause problem and drop the call.
In addition, HD voice will only work when both callers are using VoLTE ready phones on the same carrier. Aside from the iPhone 6, only a few other VoLTE-ready devices are currently available, including Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 3.
Even though the HD Voice feature has limitation, for now, it is safe to say that in the near future, all will benefit on the HD Voice service.
