Woman Narrates How E.Ekeson's Driver Abandoned Her Kids Along Enugu-Port Harcourt Highway
Mrs. Amaka Onyekwere narrated on how a driver with Ekeson Transport Company left her children off a vehicle at Ossioma near Aba along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway and zoomed off very late at night. She took the 18-seater Lagos-Aba bus at the popular Ekeson Transport Company with registration number EPE 926 XF in Ikotun.
Narrating her painful experience, she said: “On July 29, I boarded a bus at the popular Ekeson Transport Company in Ikotun, Lagos State heading to Aba in Abia State. I paid N10, 000 for three seats for my four kids, a teenager and myself.” “When we reached Owerri, the driver dropped us for no particular reason. After protests by the distraught passengers, he then transferred us to another Ekeson bus he said was heading to Aba. Surprisingly, while on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, particularly at a place called Osisioma, the driver abandoned us.

All entreaties for him to take us to a safe place as darkness was fast approaching fell on deaf ears.” “The driver rather reprimanded us for daring to seek his assistance, retorting that he was not the driver that took us from Lagos in the first place.
Before we knew what was happening, he had offloaded our belongings, which was also paid for and herded my kids off his vehicle into the drizzling sky and zoomed off.”

She said her husband patronised the company going by their ‘reputable’ name. “My husband for the umpteenth time demanded from the manager and the ticketing clerk in Ikotun the certainty of the vehicle’s final destination, to which they also affirmed it was ending at Aba.” “ My husband was infuriated when he learnt that the company violated the contract with impunity”, she added. But Amaka’s husband, who decried the callous attitude of the driver, has threatened legal action against the company if necessary reparation is not made in the shortest possible time.

The company’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Farouk Biniki has said the company did not authorise such attitude, and therefore can never be associated with any driver that abandons passengers on the road. He gave assurance that the company would investigate the driver’s behaviour and “if found culpable, he will not only lose his job, but will also be prosecuted”.
