First Consultant Hospital in Obalende, Lagos State, where Nigeria’s index Ebola case was treated will receive N4 million from ANAP foundation.

The first Ebola victim in Nigeria was Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer who arrived Nigeria with the virus.




The Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu’s spokesperson, Dan Nwomeh, in a statement said, the founder of the foundation, Atedo Peterside, informed the ministry that all private hospitals affected by the outbreak would receive N100, 000 per bed space.

The statement said Mr. Peterside disclosed that First Consultant Hospital would be the first beneficiary of the foundation’s donation.

The hospital will receive N4 million since it has 40 bed spaces. Mr. Nwomeh also clarified that the recent N200 million donation to the Lagos State Government was separate from the N1.9 billion released by Federal Government.

He said the N200 million, a distinct and direct Federal Government support to Lagos State, did not stop other assistance that may be rendered to the state through the Federal Ministry of Health.

He also disclosed that other foundations, such as Dangote Foundation, Tony Elumelu Foundation Shell Petroleum Limited, have donated N150 million, N50 million and ambulances respectively to the Ebola Emergency Operation Centre, Lagos Nigeria recorded its first Ebola case on July 20 when a Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer, came with the disease into Lagos. Mr. Sawyer died at First Consultant Hospital, Obalende, Lagos on July 24. So far, 12 people have tested positive to the deadly disease out of which five have died, including the Mr. Sawyer. Five others were discharged while the other two people are already responding to treatment.
