Chelsea Should Make Hulk Their Number One Target

Jose Mourinho should sign the Brazilian in January

Reports have suggested that Chelsea could end their long-standing interest in Hulk by signing him in January following reports in Russia that the Brazilian is preparing to leave Zenit St. Petersburg.

The Blues find themselves in third place in the Premier League after an up and down first half of the season.

They sit two points behind leaders, Arsenal and two places below the presumed minimum expectation of owner Roman Abramovich, who wouldn't have been too satisfied with the shaky 2-1 win against Crystal Palace at the weekend or Tuesday night's defeat to Sunderland.

The transfer window couldn't have come at a better time for Chelsea and fans will surely admit that new recruits will be more than essential.

Chelsea have been constantly linked with 27-year-old Hulk since his days with Porto, and the transfer saga has been going on ever since.

Hulk enjoyed a lot of success in Portugal before signing with Zenit, where he became the most expensive player in Russian history at £40 million in 2012.

The rumours haven't disappeared and although Hulk has settled well in Russia, scoring 23 goals, the Brazilian appears to be looking for a move to a more prestigious league.

This is good potential news for Chelsea, where there's been an obvious striker dilemma at Stamford Bridge where the three main strikers have scored just five goals between them this campaign.

Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto'o have looked sluggish this season, and both will be on the wrong side of 30 after March.

Demba Ba has showed some rare signs of quality but Jose Mourinho has been reluctant to play him. With these players out of form, Hulk could be the right man for Chelsea.

His strong, powerful physique would cope well with the demands of the Premier League, not to mention the speed and rocket left-foot the forward has been gifted with.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has also admitted that the Blues may not challenge for the Premier League this season without a killer, selfish striker.

He told BBC Radio: "We don't have the striker who is going to score 30 goals in the league."

Hulk's 140 career league goals could suggest otherwise for Mourinho, who must be alerted by the recent speculation or else he'll be right with his prediction of no possibly silverware for Chelsea this season.

Abramovich needs to ready his cheque book next month as Chelsea could finally bring Hulk to the Premier League.
