Liverpool will move for AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli if the club lose Luis Suarez, reports in The Daily Mail suggest.

The former Manchester City striker is said to be unhappy in Italy and could be looking for a move back to England.

Liverpool have earmarked Balotelli as a replacement for the possibly Suarez, the Uruguayan who had an incredible season last year, scoring 31 goals in 37 appearances and who is now being linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Liverpool may struggle to keep Suarez. The Uruguay striker may also feel that he can't turn down Real Madrid despite Liverpool achieving Champions League football last season.

Balotelli had a relatively successful time in his previous spell in England. The Italian was signed by Manchester City for a fee in the region of £24 million and won the league under former Italian manager Roberto Mancini.

During his time at Manchester City, Balotelli scored 30 goals in 80 appearances but was an unpredictable character. He had a poor disciplinary record and even needed assistance to put on a training bib before City's Europa League match against Dynamo Kiev in 2011.

Balotelli was then sold by Manchester City to AC Milan in January 2013. The striker has since gone on to make 54 appearances for the Milan club, scoring 30 goals.

Liverpool may face competition to land the 23-year-old with Arsenal reportedly also interested. Many other Italian clubs are also monitoring the striker's situation.

Balotelli clearly has the talent and the build to be a top striker. He is tall, strong, agile, fast and powerful. He also has great technical ability which is shown with his fantastic goals both in and outside of the box. He is also a free kick specialist.

However, much like Suarez, Balotelli has disciplinary issues and the Italian has shown immaturity off the field.

Balotelli largely succeeded during his previous spell in England so could potentially do the same if he signs for Liverpool, but he could still be a risky signing for the Merseyside club due to his enigmatic nature.
