Premier League title challengers reportedly serious about landing Colombian marksman Falcao.

Chelsea look set to rival Real Madrid for the signing of Falcao - the Colombian striker who has established himself as one of world football's most prolific strikers in recent seasons.

According to French newspaper Le 10 Sport, Jose Mourinho's men are serious about reviving their interest in the Monaco striker who only arrived in Ligue 1 from La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid for a reported £53m fee back in late May.

The publication further suggests that Chelsea could be seen as favourable suitors for the forward due to the fact that both the player and Mourinho share the same agent - Portuguese Jorge Mendes.

Falcao's short spell at Stade Louis II has been fraught with potentially harmful speculation and uncertainty, with earlier reports this summer suggesting that the 27-year-old may have to be sold in order for Monaco to avoid a potential £75m fine over tax laws.

Rumours concerning the player's future have been rife in the subsequent months, with La Liga giants Real Madrid having been linked with a potential move for the Colombian international.

However, it appears as if Chelsea are deadly serious about their own pursuit of Falcao, who evidently has not let such exit talk affect his game having notched nine goals in just 13 league appearances under Claudio Ranieri.

After letting imposing Belgian starlet Romelu Lukaku leave on loan for Everton during the summer, Chelsea have been left with the trio of Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and recent recruit Samuel Eto'o - all of whom have struggled to find any sort of consistency in front of goal.

Mourinho, therefore, is evidently in need of a little extra firepower to ensure that the Blues are able to remain in the title race.
